Kent Business School
A university in the ancient city of Canterbury was first considered in 1947, when an anticipated growth in student numbers led several localities to seek the creation of a new university, including Kent. However the plans came to nothing.
The university grew at a rapid rate throughout the 1960s, with three colleges and many other buildings on campus being completed by the end of the decade. The 1970s saw further construction, but the university also encountered the biggest physical problem in its history. The university had been built above a tunnel on the disused Canterbury and Whitstable Railway. In July 1974 the tunnel collapsed, damaging part of the Cornwallis Building, which sank nearly a metre within about an hour on the evening of 11 July. Fortunately, the university had insurance against subsidence, so it was able to pay for the south-west corner of the building to be demolished and replaced by a new wing at the other end of the building.

In 2009 Kent Business School celebrates 20 years of management education (1989-2009) The School is one of the largest departments within the University of Kent and occupies a purpose-designed building on the wooded campus above the historic city of Canterbury. It is within easy reach of London and Paris or Brussels. The School is proud of its international, dynamic and research-led learning environment. After several years of development, the School improved dramatically in the 2008 RAE and is now in the top 30 business schools in the UK. 55% of its research is classified as “Top International Quality”.
In 2008, the Accounting & Finance and Business & Administrative Studies programmes were rated 3rd and 10th respectively in the UK for student satisfaction. In addition to an AMBA accredited MBA, the School offers a range of Masters Programmes, an expanding Doctoral Programme with 70 students, and a wide portfolio of Management Development programmes. The School has an undergraduate population of 1300 students on both the Canterbury and Medway campuses. The School is a member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and engages actively with regional, national and international business communities.

Kent Business School offers a range of degree programmes for both postgraduate and undergraduate applicants, some offered as joint honours degrees in conjuction with other University departments such as Computing or Law. Many of the programmes give you an option of spending a year abroad and/or working in industry.
