Chiropractic is an expanding health care profession, primarily concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of conditions and complaints of the musculoskeletal system. The chiropractic profession is known throughout the world as a specialist body of practitioners who can provide help and relief for many individuals who would otherwise suffer prolonged pain and illness.

Chiropractic is one of the fastest growing health care professions in Europe and the rest of the world. There are over 2,200 practising chiropractors in the UK presently, with the profession continuing to grow year-on-year. The AECC estimates that there is demand for at least an additional 3,000 chiropractors to work in the UK alone.
As an independent higher education institution, the AECC offers a four year, full-time course in chiropractic leading to a Masters degree in Chiropractic (MChiro). The MChiro course is known as an ‘integrated Masters degree’ as students join the AECC at an undergraduate entry level but leave with a Masters degree qualification. The programme of study at the AECC enables its graduates to develop the skills necessary for a demanding and rewarding career in chiropractic.
An increasing number of students are considering chiropractic as a credible and scientifically based alternative to physiotherapy. Many well trained and qualified physiotherapists struggle to find employment after leaving university. Recent figures from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists revealed that 7 in 10 graduates are unable to gain employment in the profession. The vast majority of AECC graduates secure jobs in chiropractic or set up their own practice within 12 months of graduation.

Chiropractors are relied upon to diagnose, evaluate and solve the problems of their patients, most of whom will visit the practitioner directly, rather than having to be referred from their GP. In short, chiropractors are often a first port of call for people suffering with pain and discomfort and it is the chiropractor’s responsibility to get to the root of the problem.
Chiropractors take an holistic approach to the health needs of their patients, considering physical, psychological and social factors. They provide care and support to their patients by reducing pain and disability caused by musculoskeletal disorders.
The AECC has recently expanded its facilities to address the increasing demand for studying chiropractic. In January 2009, a new 1,500m² chiropractic teaching clinic was opened at the College’s Bournemouth-based campus – a state-of-the-art facility to benefit the local community and AECC students alike. It is in the clinic where students spend a considerable amount of time during their studies, and especially during their final 12 months, experiencing the reality of treating patients first-hand, while under the supervision of an experienced multi-disciplinary team of clinical tutors.

The AECC has been established for over 40 years and has a world-wide reputation for excellence in chiropractic education. The College is set in a grade II listed building and is just a ten minute walk away from a seven-mile stretch of golden coastline. With a student base of around 600, the AECC has an intimate feel, with most individuals here forming friendships which will last the test of time. The AECC’s mix of students (50% from the UK, 40% from Europe and 10% from the rest of the world) also ensures diversity of culture and tradition which is apparent from the moment you set foot in the College.
Chiropractic is a fully regulated profession throughout the UK and in many countries around the world. The MChiro degree offered at the AECC is accredited by the Council for Chiropractic Education and is therefore recognised worldwide. Starting salaries in chiropractic are generally above average graduate earnings and many AECC graduates set up their own practices within a few years of leaving the college.
